Cameras for Kids is an idea. It’s an idea that I hope will inspire young people to express themselves through photography….and I’d like to help provide them with the proper equipment to do that! So just to be clear, I do not have a non-profit organization for this…yet. However, every dollar donated to Cameras for Kids goes toward the purchase of a camera for a “kid” who would benefit from a creative outlet. 100%, no questions asked.

I hope to award our first camera at the end of 2009. In 2010, I would like to formalize the application process for students, teachers and parents – but baby steps for now, however your thoughts and ideas are welcome.

I was inspired for this idea by a young lady named Erica. She and her sister love to take photographs and recently, I reviewed somewhat of a “portfolio” of her work – let me tell you – it was amazing! With a simple camera, she was able to capture the spirit of people unlike many professional photographers I’ve seen. The lighting was great and the framing was brilliant. She was lucky to have supportive parents – not all kids are that lucky.

I wondered to myself, how many other young people have such a talent and an eye for photography if they were just given a chance? I never knew I was any good at photography until Larry bought me a good camera for Christmas. So, I would like to give that opportunity to other people – and what a better “people” to support and encourage than kids.

If Cameras for Kids can help just one young mind express their creativity in a fun and productive fashion, the program will be a success…however, I’m aiming for a few more than just one success story.
